Michael’s Rules: No. 1

I’ve been really lucky to have the love and support of a lot of great people throughout my life. Along the way, they’ve given me some pretty good advice which I now consider my own personal rules for living—words of wisdom that have helped me navigate my career and my life and that I would like to pass along to you, too. And Rule No. 1 seems like the perfect place to start …

When I was about 13 years old, I was a healthy kid or, as I like to call it “big-boned.” (LOL!) I learned that I had to take better care of myself so I wouldn’t get teased about my big butt or risk not being able to keep up with my brothers or play sports. I turned to a few sources (some unexpected) for help: my dad, a book by football legend Herschel Walker, and Jane Fonda’s workout. Consequently, I make a point of not making assumptions about people and staying open to the possibility that alliances might come in the most unlikely packages.

You can read more about this story and others in my book, Wake Up Happy.
