Michael’s Rules: No. 17

I’ve been really lucky to have the love and support of a lot of wonderful people throughout my life. Along the way, they’ve given me some pretty great advice which I now consider my own personal rules for living—words of wisdom that have helped me navigate my career and my life and that I would like to pass along to you, too.

It’s no accident that everyone on my team has one thing in common. A super-positive, glass-is-always-half-full attitude. They embody the one mantra that may well be more important to me than any other I’ve touched upon: There’s more power in your attitude than in your bank account. There are so many people I count as positive team members, it’s hard to single out just a couple, but these people all have attitudes that shine so bright: Latreal “La” Mitchell who, among many other things, helped me get mentally and physically prepared for my role in Magic Mike XXL; Jose Diaz, Constance’s one-time intern with “something special,” who then became my right-hand man for years, and is now our director of branding; and Sarah Politis whose positive energy of happiness has taken her and will continue to take her very far.

The self-help author and motivational speaker Wayne Dyer used to say, “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” I’ve seen this in my own life. I saw it in my father’s journey. I see it now as I watch my friends drive toward their greatest dreams. It’s the reason I truly believe that there’s more power in your attitude than in your bank account.
