On the Agenda: Thanksgiving Conversation Starters

One of the reasons why I love Thanksgiving so much—besides the food, of course—is the ability to gather with family and friends to share a meal and just talk. If you read my post from earlier this week, Thanksgiving is often a time when all of the different characters in your life come together … which can make getting a good conversation going a little awkward. Add to that all of the topics you need to avoid talking about these days, and chatting others up while you’re passing the stuffing gets a whole lot harder. So, we’re here to helpwith a few tried-and-true Thanksgiving conversation starters beyond “What are you thankful for this year?” (although that is always a good thing to think about), that are sure to steer your Turkey Day convos in the right direction.

Ask the Kids
Who’s the funniest person at the table and why? (A: Uncle Michael, of course) • If you could redo yesterday, what would you change about it and why? • If you were allowed to eat only three things for the rest of your life, what would they be? • What do you think the hardest thing is about being a grownup? • If you could be seated at the Thanksgiving table next to any fictional character from a book, who would it be?

Ask the Parents & Grandparents
What do you think the hardest thing is about being a kid? • If you had to choose one thing on this table to eat every day for the rest of your life, what would it be? • What’s your best “kid” joke? • If you could have one superpower (flying, reading minds, super strength, etc.), what would it be? • When you were a kid, how did you celebrate Thanksgiving? • What is your favorite Thanksgiving food?

Ask the Friends
What was the first music concert you ever saw? • Which person at the table would make the best: news anchor? weatherperson? • If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? • What is your favorite holiday movie of all time? • If you could change your first name, what would you change it to? • If you could be seated at the Thanksgiving table next to any celebrity (alive or dead) who would it be?
