This Sunday, November 11 is Veterans Day—a holiday marking the anniversary of the end of World War I in honor of the United States veterans and victims of all wars. It’s a day that Michael recognizes each year, not least of which because his father, Gene, was a commander in the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne. Along with his friends and colleagues, Michael is committed to supporting servicemen and women who are on and off duty.
The nonprofit Merging Vets and Players is an organization that is near and dear to Michael’s heart, not only because it was started by his good friend and Fox NFL Sunday co-commentator Jay Glazer and Nate Boyer, a former active-duty Green Beret and professional athlete. Together, they created MVP and shaped its mission to match up combat veterans and former professional athletes together—after the uniform comes off—to give them a new team to tackle the transition together. MVP shows them they are not alone by building an environment where these warriors can share each other’s strength and experience, and can support each other in building fulfilling lives of service and strength.
