The 411: Summer Beers to Beat the Heat

There’s nothing quite as satisfying as cracking a cool, crisp beer at the end of a long, hot summer’s day. To help give you some ice-cold inspiration, here are a few of our personal recommendations:

Modelo: Clean and crisp, Modelo is a Pilsner-style lager that is a favorite of my pal Tony Gonzalez, who insists that ice-cold is the only way to drink it.

Lagunitas IPA: A blend of 43 different hops and 65 malts, this sweet-smelling brew is a real crowd-pleaser for just about every palate.

Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy: Crisp and refreshing with a hint of lemonade, this traditional weiss is like summer in a bottle—and it tastes great with anything you can put on a grill, too.

Shiner Strawberry Blonde: Made in my home state of Texas (Austin, to be exact), this beer is made with real strawberries, pale and wheat malts.

Beer cocktails: If just drinking a beer out of the bottle isn’t exciting enough for you, there’s a whole bunch of beer-infused cocktails you can try out, too—try adding things like gin or Campari or Worcestershire sauce (just not all at once) to your favorite beer.
