This Saturday marked the second time I got to be the master of slimy ceremonies for the Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Sports —and it was awesome. I always have a fun time when I get to host. It’s incredible to see all these top professional athletes come together to put on an incredible night of fun (and of course, slime) with one goal in mind: to put smiles on the faces of all of the kids. It really shows the true power of sports.
Another thing I love about the KCS Awards is that everyone comes together and brings their kids, too. My twin daughters, Sophia and Isabella, came with me and we all had a blast. We’ve been doing this for a few years, and it’s great to have my two youngest out in L.A. I hope they love that I host, but I think they are more excited about taking pictures with some of the celebrities, so I’m not too big of a deal to them. What’s fun is when they say, “Dad, can we get a picture with Zion Williamson?” and I’m like, “Sure, but can I jump in the photo, too?” They probably crop me out (LOL)!
When I host, the question I get asked the most always involves the slime. I love the energy, the stunts, the kids, the crowd, but man, does it involve a lot of slime! I’ve been slimed quite a few times, maybe a few too many times because I’ve basically lost track. The slime is cold and slippery and actually tastes like green apple. But it’s all for the kids, so I ain’t complaining! Getting slimed and seeing others get slimed—like when my friend, Dwayne Wade, was honored as a KCS legend for all of the things he’s done on and off the court—is also absolutely hysterical.
Hosting this show is one of my favorite things, and this year might have been the biggest, the baddest, and the slimiest ever. Check out some of my favorite moments below or visit Nickelodeon’s YouTube channel to watch some more of the night’s very slimy highlights.
